What is it?

An old-fashioned soapbox (non-motorized) derby race with two groups, ages 7-11 and 12-18

New Canaan Country School

How to join us:

Event is free.  Arrive early to enjoy food truck, kid zone and music, racing starts by 1pm.  Racers arrive by 11:45 for inspection.

How to race in the derby

All racers MUST register before race day.  E-mail us at chris@graciefund.org if you are interested.  


Then decide how you want to participate - you can build a car from scratch, build it from a kit, or you can buy a derby car and make it your own.  Entering the race is completely free.  We can help - join us for a derby car building clinic or ask us how to source a pre-built derby car.

Car specifications:

Single driver cars: A) Gravity powered only  B) 4 wheels only C) Built low enough and sturdy enough to be stable  D) Steerable  E) Must have brakes F) Maximum overall length of 84 inches.  All cars must pass pre-race inspection. More details available.  

race-day rules:

Racers & cars arrive by 12pm for inspection and registration.  Racers ages 7 - 18.  All racers must wear helmets and closed toe shoes.  We suggest eye protection and thin gloves as well.  Good sportsmanship, community spirit, and safety come first!  Full rules available below.
