What is it?

An old-fashioned soapbox (non-motorized) derby race with two groups, ages 7-11 and 12-19


Where is it?

New Canaan Country Day School

635 Frogtown Rd, New Canaan 


How to join us:

Arrive by 12:45 to watch the race and cheer on your favorite car.  Arrive by 12pm if you are racing (info below). Both are free!

How to race in the derby

All racers MUST register before race day.  E-mail us at chris@graciefund.org or use the sign up button below.  


Then decide how you want to participate - you can build a car from scratch, build it from a kit, or you can buy a derby car and make it your own.  Entering the race is completely free.  We can help you source a pre-built derby car if interested.

Car specifications:

Single driver cars: A) Gravity powered only  B) 4 wheels only C) Built low enough and sturdy enough to be stable  D) Steerable  E) Must have brakes F) Maximum overall length of 84 inches.  All cars must pass pre-race inspection. More details available.  

race-day rules:

Racers & cars arrive by 12pm for inspection and registration.  Racers ages 7 - 19.  All racers must wear helmets and closed toe shoes.  We suggest eye protection and thin gloves as well.  Good sportsmanship, community spirit, and safety come first!
